Privacy Policy

This policy describes information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. Continued use of Humboldt County Criminal History indicates acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Humboldt County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, servers may receive routine technical information about the visit:

  • Page-view timestamps
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • IP address used for the connection
  • Referring website, when available
  • Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and analytics services help summarize traffic, popular pages, and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how parts of the site work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Routing a submitted search to the applicable partner
  • Maintaining site availability and page speed
  • Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
  • Measuring which pages visitors use
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Humboldt County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Humboldt County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DPS Division of Criminal Investigation, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy policies govern anything entered there, along with their retention and sharing choices. Review the provider's terms before submitting information because this policy does not control a partner's processing.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to courts, sheriffs, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal details.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites for targeted advertising.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a query submitted to them
  • Advertising networks placing ads on a page
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Standard safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, so a breach can never be ruled out.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when a valid request establishes the issue.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to Iowa public records, while Iowa Code chapter 692 separately governs dissemination and correction of Iowa criminal-history data held by DCI. For information held by this private site, a visitor may:

  • Request access to personal information kept about the visitor
  • Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
  • Seek deletion where the law permits it
  • Opt out of eligible processing activities
